World Health Day

World Health Day

Today, Ghost Express recognises World Health Day. For all of you drivers out there who run medical vaccines just for the massive payout, there’s no better day for it. But let’s take a moment to discuss what today is really about.

On this day 78 years ago, the World Health Organization was founded. As a specialised agency of the United Nations (UN), they coordinate responses to international public health issues and emergencies. Just like the one that happened a few years ago that everyone wants to forget about!

The topic this year at the International One Health Summit in Lyon, France is “Together for health. Stand with science.” The main points under discussion are Zoonotic Diseases, Antimicrobial Resistance, Sustainable Food Systems, and Environmental Health. (It might be a good idea not to look up the first one if you have a pet you’re fond of.)

While science gives us the research and the cures to tackle the world’s diseases, without the combined effort of many diverse industries, these pharmaceutical goods would never get to where they need to go.

Sure, we all think of the doctors and nurses who administer them, but let’s not forget everyone involved in the chain, including those truck drivers who need to get a batch of vaccines half way across the continent because they were needed “yesterday”. Those guys are doing everything in their power to meet the tightest of deadlines and get things where they need to go.

So, for those of you trucking today, stay healthy out there. Make sure those vaccines get to their destination and aren’t spilled all over the Autobahn because of a Skoda driver with poor lane discipline!
